At 6900 foot tall, Booker Mtn in DM18 is not the tallest site around, but, it's location more than makes up for that. As you enter Tonopah from the North on Hwy 95, look for Corona Ave. Turn left there and then onto Water St. Follow it up the hill till it starts to turn left and go back down. At that point continue straight onto the dirt road headed North. Work your way around the ridge to your right. The road will turn to the east and cross the flat. Here you first see the commercial sites atop the mtn.
Go East across the flat to the base of the switch backs. Continue up and towards the East. The road curves and approaches the summit from the South. Go past the first group of microwave sites and turn right into the large flat area between them and the FAA site on the very top. The best place to setup is approximately 100 yards east of the road.
From here in 1996, our multi-op group had worked 40 grids via Tropo before we experianced a 37 minute Es opening into the midwest. When everything was said and done the 2M log contained 125 Qs, 55 grids, and 10 states! Something that has not been done before or after by anyone else in the west.
